Agenda:
Addressing the Supply of Weapons to Insurgent Groups with special emphasis on the Gulf of Oman

In this edition of EHMUN, the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) will be addressing the persistent issue of rebel groups and their expansion over the globe, especially emphasizing on the Gulf of Oman. The issue of supplying weapons to insurgent groups is multifaceted, involving political, military, legal, and humanitarian challenges. A key focus of this issue is the Gulf of Oman, which serves as a vital route for the illicit flow of weapons into the Middle East, fuelling conflicts in Yemen, Syria, and Iraq. Regional powers such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Oman have been implicated in arms trafficking, which undermines peace efforts and destabilizes the region. Despite international measures like naval patrols and arms embargoes, the continued flow of weapons remains a major obstacle to peace and regional security, making this a conflict which requires immediate action.

Neev Turakhia
Chairperson, DISEC
My name is Neev Turakhia, and I am incredibly excited to serve as the chairperson for the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) at this year's Emerald Heights Model United Nations Conference. With a strong passion for quizzing, fintech, and international relations, I bring a unique perspective to our discussions.
This year, DISEC will thoroughly examine our agenda, aiming to develop effective strategies to tackle pressing global challenges. Delegates will be tasked with proposing meaningful solutions to prevent the supply of weaponry to insurgent groups and ensure accountability for those responsible, while also examining the existing situation in the Gulf of Oman. Together, we will strive to create a safer and more secure world. The Executive Board of DISEC looks forward to three days of intellectually stimulating yet challenging experiences for delegates as they work together to tackle this urgent issue.
