Agenda:
Analyzing the expansion of Surveillance and Intelligence Frameworks due to Congressional Budgetary Gridlocks and Private Contracting
Surveillance has expanded in the US exponentially over the past two decades, largely as a result of the September 11 attacks. Private contractors such as Palantir Technologies, Booz Allen Hamilton, and more — who have gained a considerable amount of influence — have drawn significant criticism from civil libertarians over the violation of personal privacy rights. This increasing dependency on private organizations for national security has sparked widespread debate; be it about accountability, transparency, the scope of data collection, or close government ties of these entities. Evidence suggesting that such surveillance technology has been misused to unlawfully monitor ordinary citizens has only proved that the issue is a result of systemic legislative failures: lack of bipartisanship, as well as the broad and largely unsupervised provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act allowing overreach. As the supreme law-making body of the nation, it is imperative that the Senate takes decisive action by deliberating, legislating, and passing new and clearer frameworks that safeguard citizens' rights and harmonize security interests.

Aayush Vijayvargiya
President, US SENATE
I am Aayush Vijayvargiya, and I am deeply honored to preside as President of the United States Senate at the Emerald Heights Model United Nations, 2026. I am a 12th grade PCM student and I enjoy writing, debating, mathematics, and watching a new series every now and then. I find myself just at home while engaging in a conversation about US politics as I do while exploring a new menu.
The Senate, this year, will deliberate upon the implications of overreach through Surveillance technology, and poor oversight — both allowed due to equally loose Intelligence Frameworks. These frameworks have long been justified under the guise of protecting the nation from the next 9/11; but are they truly the shield that guards or the knife that exploits citizens’ rights? With rising civil unrest and intensive legislative debate against these laws and the influence of private companies, Senators must be swift and precise in resolving this issue by proposing clearer frameworks and laws to regulate Surveillance and Intelligence, restoring the faith of the American people.
God Bless America.
